Roemer Capital Participates in Bloomberg's Future of Markets Conference Featuring Top Government Officials and Capital Markets Leaders

Limassol, Cyprus – July 2, 2025 – Roemer Capital (Europe) Limited was pleased to participate in Bloomberg's exclusive "Future of Markets: Cyprus' Economic and Capital Markets Outlook" conference, held at the Amara Hotel in Limassol on July 1, 2025.

The high-profile event brought together senior government officials, including CySEC Chairman George Theocharides, Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki, and Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, alongside leading international investors and economists to examine Cyprus' evolving economic landscape.

The company's participation in this prestigious Bloomberg forum underscores its commitment to staying at the forefront of European capital markets developments and contributing to constructive dialogue on regional economic policy and investment strategy.

Strong Economic Fundamentals Drive Market Confidence

The conference highlighted Cyprus' robust economic performance and strategic positioning within the European Union. Deputy Minister Piki presented strong macroeconomic indicators, including GDP growth of 3.4 per cent in 2024 and 3 per cent in the first quarter of 2025, unemployment below 5 per cent, and a fiscal surplus of over 4 per cent in 2024, expected to reach 3.5 per cent in 2025.

The government's "prudent fiscal policy" has helped reduce public debt to below 65 per cent of GDP, with a target of under 60 per cent by next year. These fundamentals have strengthened investor confidence and brought renewed recognition, with all major credit rating agencies upgrading Cyprus to the A category.

Regulatory and Geopolitical Perspectives

CySEC Chairman George Theocharides provided regulatory insights, emphasizing the steady evolution of Cyprus' financial ecosystem and the country's collaboration with ESMA, the EU financial markets regulator. Theocharides underlined that "European savings should be used to finance Europe's agenda" rather than lying idle or flowing to US markets, while highlighting opportunities in the country's thriving online trading and brokerage sector.

Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos positioned Cyprus as a strategic regional hub, describing the country as "a regional voice of reason in a neighbourhood full of angry voices", emphasizing Cyprus' role as a bridge between the EU and neighboring regions.

Cyprus Stock Exchange Privatization Initiative

A key focus of the conference was the Cyprus government's commitment to modernizing the country's capital markets infrastructure. Deputy Minister Piki outlined that Cyprus is proceeding with the privatisation of the Cyprus Stock Exchange, with legislation already tabled in Parliament and a strategic investor to be selected through an international tender. This initiative forms part of the government's broader economic transformation strategy aimed at enhancing investor confidence and market accessibility.

Strategic Capital Markets Discussion

Alex Kantarovich, CFA, Head of Research and Managing Director at Roemer Capital (Europe) Limited, served as a distinguished panelist in the economic and capital markets outlook discussion, moderated by Bloomberg's Athens & Cyprus Bureau Chief Viktoria Dendrinou. The panel featured prominent industry leaders including Fiona Mullen, Founder & Director of Sapienta Economics, and Ioannis Petri, Founder & Managing Director of Athlos Capital.

During the panel discussion, Kantarovich highlighted barriers to entry in capital markets and emphasized that Cyprus should take steps to lower them. Addressing the government's privatization initiative, he welcomed the move to privatise the Cyprus Stock Exchange but suggested that involving more than one strategic investor would yield better results, stating "Having just one strategic investor would be a bit limiting".
